This is what I did for Mother’s Day and 100% of it was found, recycled or repurposed.
I had a magazine page torn out and saved since the summer of 2001. Well, today on Mother’s Day with one of my best friends we tackled it. If I did not have to rewire the pump this project would have only taken about 90 minutes!
One of my best friends was over with her kids and we had a great day doing this project. Now, we are going to do one in her yard.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Step One: Based on the tub you use, dig a hole to accommodate it. I had a low, wide tub I had bought at a yard sale to mixed concrete for a stepping stone project. You won’t see it, so it does not need to be pretty. :)
Step Two: Place tub in hole and make sure it is nearly flush with the hole edges.
Step Three: Use rocks or bricks to build up the bottom for your log round to sit on. Make sure it is the same level as the top of the tub.
Step Four: Drill through the center of the log. I borrowed the LONG drill bit from someone that I knew had that kind of stuff.
Step Five: Slide a piece of medical tubing through the hole that you drilled out. I used a piece that I had from a fountain that didn’t work anymore.
Step Six: This pump needed a ton of TLC. I had to splice the severed wire back together, but miraculously it worked when we plugged it in. This particular pump is solar and had been sitting in a cupboard waiting for a job.
Step Seven: Not being new, we decided to test it before we got the log and everything in place. IT WORKS! YEA!
Step Eight: Cut a hole in a fine piece of rigid screen. This will keep all your rocks at the same level as the ground.
Step Nine: With a helper, tip log up onto a corner and have someone put the hose and pump together and then carefully place it over the pump and bricks. MAke sure your tube is not pinched but straight down, over the pump.
Step Ten: Place rocks all around the log and trim the tubing to just above the log top. This fountain does not make a lot of noise, but it’s so beautiful and peaceful. Make sure your tub is always full of water or the pump will burn up. Enjoy your accomplishment with a cool drink.
